The Lightning Scientific Kali Federation teaches the practical armed and unarmed methods of self-defense that the legendary Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema used in World War II and challenge matches in the Philippines. Our system of Kali Arnis is derived from the classical styles of Tercia, Serrada, Cadenilla and Espada y Daga. Lightning Scientific Kali is a very fast and aggressive method of fighting developed to counter fully committed power strikes, and overwhelm the attacker from the blind side. All of the combative techniques in the system have a dual offensive and defensive application, which is meant to be delivered with speed and power, generated by coordinating the movement of the entire body with every strike.
The curriculum that is taught in the Lightning Scientific Kali Federation has been designed to provide beginners and advanced practitioners alike with a complete set of self-defense skills. Lightning Scientific Kali has a wide repertoire of techniques ranging from Solo Baston, Doble Baston, Baston y Daga, Espada Y Daga, and also including empty hand self defense. It covers a wide range of skills and techniques which can be utilized in all of the combative ranges.
Aside from its focus on effective combat techniques and principles, Lightning Scientific Kali is also a traditional system of Filipino martial arts that places great importance on moral and ethical development, with equal emphasis on imparting knowledge of Philippine culture and traditions. We are a system that prides itself in our connection to the Philippines, staying true to our cultural roots by propagating the FMA as they are taught in the Philippines.
The following is a comprehensive list of what is taught in the Lightning Scientific Kali curriculum;
SOLO BASTON
Single stick techniques in our system cover respectively; Long Range (Largo), Medium Range (Media), and Close Range (Corto). Students are first taught the proper form for striking, defending, evasion, and disarming and progress towards pre-arranged flow drills (Tercia / Bigay Tama) and free sparring drills, discarding preset patterns, slowly moving towards expert training at their own pace.
DOBLE BASTON
Double stick techniques are regarded as being the highest form of Kali Arnis requiring many years of training. Students begin with pre-arranged flow drills (Bigay Tama) and progress towards free sparring drills. Training with doble baston is necessary for moving to the next phase of training. Because of its complexity, many years must be spent studying doble baston in order to become proficient in its combative use.
ESPADA Y DAGA
Espada y Daga (Sword and Dagger) techniques are favored by many grandmasters in the Philippines. The practicality of it's training can enhance the practitioner's single and double stick skills; providing an essential link in any Eskrimador's progression. The student will learn the basic forms (methods) for Espada y Daga, and move towards pre-arranged flow drills (Espada y Daga Serrada). Eventually he/she will begin free form practice learning to defend against single stick, double stick, and stick and dagger attacks without preset patterns.
IMPROVISED WEAPONRY
Everything you learn in our system can be applied with improvised weapons such as books, bottles, magazines and umbrellas. Our students get to experience various scenarios where they face off with multiple armed attackers utilizing whatever they have on hand to defend themselves. This phase of training is essential to FMA students of all levels who are interested in realistic self-defense.
COMBAT JUDO
In unarmed combat we utilize strikes, joint locks, and throwing techniques from the traditional Jujutsu that Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema learned in Japan at the Kodokan, developed to counter impact and edged weapon attacks.
